Food donation in lieu of gifts
Jamie Ulrich of Mifflinburg celebrated her 13th birthday at a party with friends and family on Saturday, August 22. In lieu of birthday gifts, she requested dog and cat food for homeless animals. She donated the cat food to L.A.P.S. (Lycoming Animal Protection Society) and the dog food to Haven to Home Canine Rescue. Representatives from each organization recently accepted the donations. Pictured are (L-R) Robin Montgomery from Haven to Home, Jamie with her dog Taco, and Linda Williard representing L.A.P.S.

Emma & Carly
Just a little note to let you know that "Emma & Carly" are both doing fine and I believe they love their new home. They seem to really like it here and I know that we are really enjoying having them here. They are the most loving cats Emma more so than Carly but she is slowly coming around. Emma loves attention where Carly just sorta stays to herself but we are slowly working on getting her to sit on our lap like Emma does....(whether you want her to or not). There's nothing shy about Emma that's for sure. Next week they both go to the salon to get a bath, a flea dip and get their toe nails trimmed....I hope they don't hold that against me!
We are going to install a cat door so they can go out onto our enclosed porch whenever they would like....I think they will like that, they will be able to look outside whenever they want cause the windows are low out there. Well I won't keep you just wanted to drop you a line and let you know that we love our new additions and they have a loving home. Thanks, Julie Fisher
South Williamsport based Girl Scout Troop 209 recently visited LAPS No-Kill Cat Shelter to learn about the facility and how it benefits the community. The group also brought donations of food, cleaning supplies and other necessities. To learn more about LAPS, visit LapsShelter.org.
Spencer Krauss, son of Debrah and Eric Krauss, South Williamsport, recently celebrated his 6th birthday at Trout Pond Park. that helps to renew faith in today's youth and let's us all know that
the world is going to be in very good hands in the future.
LAPS Benefit Party
Catherine Jones of Turbotville isn't your average third grader; well, we don't think so, but you decide. Birthday parties are big among children, theme parties most of all. You get to be with all your friends outside of school, have a great time and get gifts! What more could one ask for? Well, Catherine decided there was more that she could ask for; she could ask for help for those that can't help themselves. Catherine decided to host a skating benefit at Trout Pond Park in Muncy; however, instead of focusing on herself, she chose to focus on helping animals in need. Attending guests were asked to bring cat food or dog food in lieu of gifts for Catherine.
Catherine's party was a success! Catherine and her friends had a great time skating and eating but the best part was when they presented 250 pounds of cat food and dog food combined to LAPS representatives. (You can visit our web site for a photo of the presentation.) The cat food will go to LAPS while the dog food will go to Mostly Mutts, a no-kill dog shelter in Sunbury.
The names of the children who attended are as follows: David Witmer, Axel Murillo, Lauren Eurich, Corinne Thomas, Lexi Annulli, Lauren Bleistein, Darren Brown, Catherine Jones, Kade Meyer, Adam Kern, Natalie Lincalis, Madison Annulli, Aimee Singer, Terrian Harman and Tiffany Hartman. Miss Penny Price (third grade teacher at Turbotville Elementary School), Connie Hodges and Trout Pond Park Skating Rink also made contributions.
The volunteers and feline residents of LAPS as well as the volunteers and canine residents of Mostly Mutts would like to thank those that donated to our worthy causes. And a HUGE thank you to Catherine for this unselfish act. You are an awesome young lady!
Hello LAPS,
We've been wanting to let you know how happy we are with our newest family addition. We adopted Smokey Joe February 28th for our youngest daughter's sixth birthday. We were so excited to bring him home to "meet the rest of the family" - which included 2 other cats, one dog, 2 girls, my husband and myself. It's been quite a change for all of us.
The first week or so was a little crazy. We would only "see" him a few minutes of each day. He was VERY scared at first and would hide on us to the point it would take literally all day to find his new hiding spot. Smokey didn't know what to think of the dog. Having been with you for 3 years, I'm not sure if he had ever seen a dog. I believe he just thought it was a really HUGE cat that sniffed him too much. Things are great now.
This guy has so much personality. And best of all, he doesn't hide
on us anymore! Sadly, 5 days after bringing Smokey Joe home, our
beloved Bear ( our older cat) passed away. Something we knew was
coming - but you are never prepared. The girls and I are happy that
Mr. Smoke (as we sometimes call him) got to meet Bear. We truly believe
they are long lost cousins. Their
similarities are uncanny - right down to a crook at the end of their
tails. Having Smokey here has made the passing of Bear more "bearable". We adopted Bear 12 years ago after the flood. He was a stray that stole my heart and will never let go. I can see now that the Smoker Joker ( he has many nicknames) is doing the same thing.
I don't plan on ever getting a kitten again. These older guys still have so much love to give - I only hope more people would give the older guy a chance. Thank you so much for allowing us to bring Smokey Joe into our home. I think he is as happy to be with us as we are with him - as you can tell from the picture. This is his happy face after licking the milk from the cereal bowl - no milk mustache - but that is definitely a milk beard!
